DSAEK Cutting Procedure - Heartland Lions Eye Bank
Heartland Lions Eye Bank is a member of Vision Share. This video demonstrates the preparation and procedure the eye bank utilizes for preparing a donor tissue to meet the criteria necessary for a DSAEK procedure. This demonstration includes preparation of the room, use of the Moria® microkeratome, placement of the tissue into the chamber vial and specular microscopy. Heartland has processed over 100 lenticules.

DSAEK Procedure using Healon for Chamber Maintenance - Mark Terry, MD, Dever's Eye Institute, Portland, Oregon
Mark Terry, MD, was the first surgeon in the United States to perform Deep Lamellar Endothelial Keratoplasty (DLEK). Although he made significant technological advances to the DLEK procedure over a 3+ year period, very few patients could consistently achieve 20/20 due to the optical interface caused by dissected tissue. Also, the procedure was difficult to perform causing slow transference of skills. Dr. Terry began performing Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK) and found the smooth recipient surface allowed much more robust VAs. More patients achieved 20/20 following his first 100 cases of DSAEK than his first 300 cases of DLEK. He now considers DSEK to be his procedure of choice. Following is a video depicting Dr. Terry’s current procedure:

Descemet’s Stripping With Endothelial Keratoplasty - Frank Price, MD , Price Vision Group, Indianapolis, IN
In the past, Frank Price, MD, has performed deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK) in more than 100 patients. Now, Dr. Price is pioneering a new corneal transplant technique that involves Descemet’s stripping with endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK). Stripping Descemet’s replaces the much more difficult hand dissection of the recipient bed encountered in DLEK. He considers DSEK to be far more time efficient and easier to adapt. Dr. Price has personally performed DSEK on over 300 patients and conducts monthly training courses for interested surgeons. Following are three video’s depicting various aspects of the procedure.
